2nd Outside event (Janine Antoni)

In march from March 20-26 I went to Texas for the NCECA ceramic convention. The first opening day was on Tuesday and the opening talk was given at 8pm. The artist who gives the opening talk isn't even a ceramic artist yet she emphasis how an artist should look at different things and be inspired. So, she talked about some of her work and where her inspiration came from. The artist is Janine Antoni. She is a New York whose work revolves around her and the society to create her art. There is this one art work she has done which is very interesting where she spent a couple months sleep in the gallery. Her "Slumber", 1993 is very interesting because when she goes to sleep, she has cables to connect her head and the computer to read her dream physcologicly. She talked about how when she sleeps, the computer read her brain and draw out a chart. From the chart she got, she has woven a very long yarn to create a nice installation piece. I think the artist used a similar system to the things we talk about in class where we did the mapping project. So, I was really inspired and taken lots of idea on how artists get their inspiration from and create something amazing that could effect the society.

Outside event one (SFSU visiting artist (Ligorano/ Reese)

Once every three weeks, at SFSU there would be visiting artist give a speech and experience in the society or the real world and how people react towards their art. So, these two joined artist of Ligorano and Reese came to SFSU and share their experience and their art work. On this particular day, the artists were caught in traffic and came late. The talk usually starts exactly at 5 pm yet on that day, the talk started at 5:30pm. At first I was a little disappointed because the waste of time I was sitting in the room for doing nothing and almost walk out of the room. However, before I even stand up, The two artists rush into the room and apologized while setting up their information. Nonetheless, I was glad that I stayed to listen to their informative talk. Their artwork is recognized by many different people and even the TV news announce and give a harsh critique on it. Their art work of giant ice sculpture really shakes the country in 2012. "MIDDLE CLASS" is the sculpted word and they put it around the city to get a person's reaction. But the biggest reaction comes from the news where this political art being talked negatively from the government point of view.

Their other work is also related to technology and chance operation where they did the neon light in combination with textile art which titled "50 different minds". I really amazed to see their work and give me new inspiration to create art that could reflect or make the viewer think to respond either positively or negatively yet, it doesn't affect what the artist want to say. They also emphasize on the freedom of speech amendment because their work was critiqued by political people and considered as negative meaning of the art work. Therefore, I think their art work is really powerful and meaningful that strong enough to make people think and consider the reality of our society.

Final Presentation for Osaka tourism

1. This is my final poster and finally find what is the connection between each individual subject in my poster.

2. I centered and try to attract audience attention by focusing on this particular manga artist who used real life places to create his manga world. Gosho Aoyama manga artist of Magic Kaito and Metantei Conan which in USA known as Detective Conan. So, I focus my tour on spots that Aoyama used in his manga and how his imagination play along in real life. 

My presentation went like this: 

A~ The famous Osaka Castle 

B~ Next to it is the famous Osaka Dome use for concert and many other performance 

C~ My monument (The Doraemon food stand). The monument I create is in relation to Aoyama Gosho and how historical change of manga from 1961 to 2012. 

D~ I also put in the reality side where Tenmangu Shrine is important because this shrine worship the God of literature and art. Without this spot in our tour, there is no connection on how language come to Japan and how language evolve into drawing medium as nowadays known as manga. 

E~ Festival in connection to Tenmangu Shrine happen once a year on July

F~ Aoyama Gosho used lot's of reference to Osaka's Koshien stadium in which it connects to reality. The building is known as the home for Osaka Hanshin Tiger baseball team. 

G~ The tour ended with this famous Tsutenkaku which is known as the night life district for food and entertainment in Osaka.

The artist uses her daily activity to map out her action. one of her action she did was tracing movement of her right hand when she is using a computer mouse.

The artist uses custom-design software to display her work. In this International Orange project, she used the mapping idea to expose the past and how the view of the bay up to nowadays.

The artist uses computer 2D and 3D animation programs especially a software called X-Agora. The software allows them to map and visualize video content on a virtual 3d modeling.

Floating Cafe Rosso

Our group got a spot near Cafe Rosso, Humanities, and back side of the Fine art building.

1. Take a picture of Cafe Rosso and create a new feeling to the environment.

2. Using Photoshop to create a simple frame animation of cafe Rosso turn into a boat and float through the ocean background.

4. Create qr codes that link to the video and put them up around the campus.
